Whether you’re a student, professional, or just curious, creating surveys is a great way to gather insights.
Surveys are like conversation starters with a purpose. They help you ask questions, get answers, and make informed decisions.
One popular solution for creating basic surveys is Google Forms. Although it may not be the perfect fit for every situation or everyone’s preferences, it proves sufficient for many users.
In the next parts, we’ll learn how to make a survey with Google Forms and other options for improved survey making.
Step-by-step guide to create a survey in Google Forms
Navigating Google Forms is as intuitive as other Google products, ensuring a smooth survey creation experience. Follow visual prompts to create your Google survey.
Here’s a step-by-step guide for how to create a survey on Google Forms:
Step 1: Create a new Google Form
You can access Google Forms directly or through the apps menu on the top right of the Google homepage.
To open Google Forms in Sheets, Docs, or Slides, click on the File tab. Then, create a new Forms document, just like any other Google project.
To start creating your survey, choose one of the existing templates or start a new one from scratch.
Within the available Google Form templates, the Event Feedback and Customer Feedback options are excellent choices for conducting surveys. The Course Evaluation template offers another robust option alongside the Exit Ticket template.
Step2: Follow the visual prompts to fill in the information
You can add questions, images, videos, or change the title by clicking on any section of the template. This includes the top of the page.
Customize your survey questions, choosing between multiple-choice or short-answer responses. If you’re starting with a blank form, personalize the single title section and question provided.
There are two menus to help with customization. One is on the right side of your form, and the other is at the top right of the page. You can use the menu on the side to perform various actions. These actions include adding questions, sections, images, videos, and importing questions from past Google Forms in Google Drive.
The top menu is where you can customize your theme and preview the form. When changing the theme, you can also select a header photo from preloaded options or upload a custom image.
Step3: Share your form
You have various methods to spread your survey. To share it, click the “Send” button in the top right corner. You can email it, get a direct link, or embed it on a web page.
In this menu, you’ll discover options for each sharing approach. Additionally, you can enable the automatic collection of email responses by selecting the checkbox at the top of the “Send” menu.
Furthermore, within the same menu, you can share your survey through Twitter or Facebook. Just click on the respective social media icon to activate this feature.
Step4: Check your survey responses
To view your answers on Google Forms, go to the form editor. In the middle of the page, click on “Responses” to see a summary of the collected data. The data will be organized by questions and respondents.
For further response management, check the Settings section. Here, you’ll find additional options, such as “Collect email addresses” and decide whether respondents receive a copy of their submitted answers.
To increase survey participation and gather necessary information, incorporate your company’s branding and ask open-ended questions.
Branding options to customize your Google survey
Branding your survey and making it match your business is important to make users feel comfortable and familiar.
When the survey looks like your company, it seems more trustworthy and official. Plus, when the questions and style match your company’s voice, it helps users understand and remember what you’re asking.
Google Forms lets you change the background color and add your logo, but it has limited customization options. For businesses seeking more intricate and sophisticated forms or surveys, Google Forms may not offer the comprehensive solutions they require.
It offers basic question types, basic reporting tools, and limited branding options. If you need more advanced questions, detailed analysis, or strong branding, it might not be the best choice.
Integrating with other apps and accessing advanced features can also come at extra costs. So, while it’s great for straightforward surveys, it may not cover all the needs of complex businesses.
